Firstly, oh ye lazy little bums who can't think to look up Wikipedia, we have won 42 medals in the Olympics in track and field since we started entering in 1948. Jamaica at the Olmypics breaks it all down for you, on the first freaking pagein helpful tables and links, year by year, medal by medal.
Furthermore, many of our best have been running for other nations. You may recognize these names:
The Good
Sanya Richards USA
Germaine MasonBRITAIN
Donovan Bailey CANADA
Tessa Sanderson BRITAIN
Charmaine Crookes CANADA
The Bad
Linford Christie BRITAIN
Ben Johnson CANADA
Angella TaylorCANADA
Apparently there are also a notable number of athletes born in other countries of Jamaican parentage...
Kelly Holmes USA
Denise Lewis BRITAIN
Colin Jackson WALES (Uh, Wales has sprinters?!)
Inger Miller USA(Daughter of an Jamaican Olympic champion,Lennox Miller no less)
Fiona May BRITAIN, ITALY
Derrick Atkins BAHAMAS
To say nothing of the countless ones who are helping US colleges to track and field glory every year.
And all of the above info comes from a second Wiki article: A History of Jamaican Athletics
Funny how readily available all this info is, and yet I still see nonsense being spouted left and right. Is it too much to ask that certain media outlets do some basic one hour research on google.com before inculcating their viewers with BS galore? Apparently.
On a more ironic note, one of the more amusing things that I have noticed is that many commentators are quite fine with claiming the athlete as Canadian, American, etc., when they are running well, but if they have been caught doping, they are suddenly Jamaican-born. *snort*!
