The gov't in it's infinite wisdom, has decided, even though their own study says that adult networking sites have little to do with the production and distribution of child porn, to require that said sites get personal info such as personal id from all users of said sites. The Attorney Genral will have the right to warrantless searches through this treasure trove of info and as we all know that that those pesky laptops can be lost at any time, to say nothing of the whole "this is against the 4th Amendment and the right to privacy stuff", all well-thinking people who are not members of the Moron Majority who think that sex is evil need to be irritated and express that irritation by sending an email to the idiots who crafted this law. Here is a link that explains in detail and has a generic letter that one can send. It needs to be sent by Monday Sept. 10. Please help us to remind the gov't that "1984" was NOT a manual, and that we need to craft policies to address the problem of child porn, not trample on the rights of adults to persue their happiness and have privacy so to do.
By the way, the commnuity innocence_jihad has a well-written and researched article that makes clear that fandom will also be hit in a very big way, becuase we write stories that contain sex. Please read and please, please, please copy and paste that letter. Lj is enough of a douche-bag and we don't need the US Gov't enabling them to be worse. Do before Sept 10th please.

Date: 2007-09-08 11:28 pm (UTC)Unfortunately for another year and a few months we’re stuck with an administration that thinks stuff like laws, courts, and the constitution are things to be ignored or attacked.. God forbid the Constitution ever get in the way of Bush’s theocratic whims >_<
