1. We've got to able to detach emotionally from our institutions and be able to admit when they are wrong. And its hard as hell. And it hurts. But it hurts the transgender population to the point that their lives can be lost as a result of this discrimination. Incite, much as I rate and respect them, is WRONG on this. This is bad.

I am a cis-woman too. And I am pretty ignorant. And so I am doing some learning. But even I can see that bfp in particular is going batshit. And I get that she is emotioanlly attached to incite and all. But it looks like we cis women totally need to address this. Cause we cant be pulling these shenanigans. We totally know better.

NOLA has always been very invested in controlling its PoC population. Always. That's why the more genteel areas around the Garden District and the French Quarter have their own private (and armed) security patrols - to keep the wrong people from being there.

Since Katrina, there's been an obvious effort to keep poor minorities out of the city or in contained pockets of it. Of course, it's disguised as 'rebuilding'. I believe (and other relatives still there) that the attempt to get WoC to submit to sterilization for a pittance is also connected to what you see with TWOC being left out of this new clinic. They are 'acceptable casualties' in what I feel is a 'cleansing' of sorts.

I will be conspiracy theorist enough to put it in the bag with the attacks on TWOC in southern states that have gotten even less than the usual crap attention from the media/law enforcement. To me, it is a pattern of seeing who tptb will allow to be forced into a corner and ultimately out of any particular geographical area.

Nagin and Jindal are just the brown faces in place to make the actual agenda less suspect/deal with the backlash of failure.

I'll poke around to see what TWOC/TW groups are in NOLA for contact.

Without knowing who exactly is on the board of the clinic and how they came to this decision, I can only chalk it up to cis-privilege with a 'so glad to even get this much' thrown in.

There's a lot I could say about what I *think* may be happenening, but I am not comfortable having that conversation (intra-PoC)with it having trans/cis issues tied into it, because I'm sure there are things I am missing.

gentrification in my city is producing so much brutality and pushing twoc out of common spaces to congregate. it sounds like related bullshit is taking place with all the aggressive privatization in NOLA.

Some idiot in Louisiana proposed paying poor WoC (read; Black) to get sterilized while paying well to do, educated white families to have more children.

The clinic issue is seperate, but part of a pattern of marginalizing WoC, both cis and Trans.

Just so you know, trans people are forcibly sterilized in most places in the world.

Its the price of legal recognition for many of us.

sighs..I can remember when Texas passed the prohibition on involuntary sterilization in 1978. And ppl found a way around it.

There's been a white woman traveling the country giving poor women who are addicted to drugs $$ for sterilization for quite a while now. Or rather, poor women who say they are addicted to drugs. With an emphasis on areas w/ woc. They dont do addiction treatment or anything though.

She's not racist, though, b/c she's married to a black man. And adopts black children. Only meanies say otherwise.
