This is an example of why I have such a soft spot in my heart for Torchwood. Because in Torchwood the dialogue goes like this:

I keep hearing people say that but I find her (well, most of the time, okay, some of the time) to be deeply endearing.

Mostly, I like Reese and I like their relationship.

But best of all I like that the show gives the finger to the oh-so-annoying tradition of Strong Sexy Woman turning into giggling school girl so that she can land the Dashing Hero and they live happily ever after in a boring hetero-normative relationship. Instead, it suggests that Dashing Heroes of any gender just need a nice, mild-mannered guy to do their laundry and make them dinner.

This should also apply to any of the thousands of movies and tv shows where some sad little moppet just wants daddy and/or mommy to spend more time cuddling him instead of at their jobs. But mommy/daddy is such a heartless yuppie that it takes a plane crash/rain of frogs/time travel/mass murder etc to make them see the error of their ways.
