I also think I am getting fucking tired of the excuse that Hillary must not be gracious because of the misogyny that has marked the campaign. Fuck that shit. She lost. He won. He did it by out-strategizing her and her powerful campaign and name recognition and the goodwill engendered by memories of her husband's Pres., to say nothing of the endorsement of 100 superdelegates before the fucking race started. To say nothing of her race-baiting. He ran a phenomenal campaign and came from behind to beat her. Even if he is but a lowly man.


Also, WTF is up with this BS that because she lost, there will NEVER BE ANOTHER FEMALE CONTENDER FOR PRES EVER, EVER, EVER!!!

Up until this fucking race, who the HELL thought that their would be a viable BLACK contender for the Pres.? And considering the fact that Sen Clinton finshed pretty close to Obama and indeed started out as the inevitable candidate! what makes all these teeth-gnashing people believe that another woman, running a competent campaign, can't pull this home within the next ouple of years? I've disowned Erica Jong from feminism. Don't ask me how I got that authority but I've done it for the sake of the movement. At best she's ignorant about how both candidates fought prejudice. At worst she's just a racist asshole. People like her were putting me in a bad place until you linked to shakesville (and I just recently read the essay where that name--Shakespeare's Sister--came from. It was on point.)

It's a good site. Sometimes I think they're missing perspective but on the whole they try not to be...whatever Erica Jong is. The comments might be another story.

How old is Jong though? Maybe she thinks she won't live to see one, although I disagree. More and more women are entering political prime time. It's only a matter of time and I doubt it'll be 20+ years.

This is all so ridiculous. It's embarrassing. Jong is an idiot, so is Ferraro...in fact many of the old guard feminists are dead to me now. If I saw flaws in them before, now those flaws are fatal and glaring. They are harboring major racism, they are hypocrites, they are whiny, they are reeking of entitlement. For all the b.s. I hear about "playing the race card", I have never in my life seen the "discrimination card" played like I've seen it by Hillary Clinton and her supporters. It is so obvious that this was ALL about her, her ego, her paragraph in a history book. Her politics suck, her campaign sucked, her attitude sucks. Acting like she lost because everyone is more sexist than racist is totally ridiculous. She started out way ahead; Obama has everything stacked against him and still came out ahead because he is the BETTER candidate. Not because he has a penis.
