Here are the full videos showing the Pastor Wright in full context.
Psst: The "chickens coming home to roost" bit? He was quoting a white man, Ambassador Peck, who was running around on Fox News.
I can't find unedited videos covering the rest of the stuff, but go to the Youtube acct of the church itself and look at their site:http://www.youtube.com/user/TRINITYCHGO
1.Black people are way more expressive than white people in their preaching style. It keeps us from falling asleep in those long sermons (several hours sometimes).
2. He's speaking the truth as as any halfway decent look at history will show ya
3. Except for the HIV part. What he should have said there is that the gov't was reluctant to deal with the damn thing, first because it was a gay disease, then because it was an American American disease. The Secret Epidemic: The Story of AIDS and Black America and that reluctance, along with cultural issues, ignorance on the part of the black community, as well as homophobia, played a key role in f..ing up the black community, big time. (Offtopic :Why the fuck do gov't's of every stripe invariably fail to control a problem when its smaller (on the basis of saving money) and then wrings their hands in despair when the problem costs billions and trillions instead of millions to fix?)
UPDATE:*Blink*
Seriously? People were pissed at this too?"The winds of Katrina blew the cover off America. The hurricane exposed the hypocrisy," Rev. Wright said, "protecting white folks' property took priority over saving black folks' lives." He continued, "This storm called Katrina says far more about a racist government than it does about the wrath of God."
In April 2003, Rev. Wright told his congregation that "the United States government has failed the vast majority of our citizens of African descent."
"For every one Oprah, a billionaire, you've got five million blacks who are out of work," he said. "For every one Colin Powell, a millionaire, you've got 10 million blacks who cannot read. For every one Condoskeeza [sic] Rice, you've got one million in prison. For every one Tiger Woods, who needs to get beat, at the Masters, with his cap-blazing hips, playing on a course that discriminates against women. For every one Tiger Woods, we got 10,000 black kids who will never see a golf course."
Did anyone actually see the same storm I did? Surely you all remember the bit where black people scavenging were characterized as looters, whereas whites doing the same thing were portrayed as doing something necessary?Has anyone bothered to pay attention to the relevant stats on minorities? I mean seriously? Even if you think that it's all their fault, those whiny, lazy whats-its, surely you can see that things aren't right in the state of Denmark?

Date: 2008-03-21 11:58 am (UTC)Heh, do you remember the National Dialogue on Poverty, or whatever it was called, which lasted about a week and a half, never to be heard of in Washington again?
I guess it angers those in power because it may require people to commit the ultimate sin and admit that America isn’t perfect.. You know, like the way you’ll still be shouted down if you dare suggest that 911 had any cause other than “terrorists hate our American freedom..”
