oh THANK YOU for this. I've been researching the role of women in egypt for a while for a book, and it's damn hard to find stuff that doesn't qualify everything with "well, this one woman did this stuff, but in general women didn't." and I'm like, based on what do you say this??? One book even said that most egyptian women were illiterate. How did the author know? doesn't say. i suspect projection.
