1. Andre Harris' Online Art Print Store The poster of the First Family? The Three Bears? The Butterfly and Tree Print? The Abstract Print? Pretty cool.

2. [profile] theblackcritic just really good writing right here. I can't wait til they fully open for business.

3. The fact that we are getting back our main computer.

4. Christmas.

5. That my parents are away from each other. No constant quarrelling! no sitting down to hear each side of the story! No yelling!

Africa's Undiscovered myths

Just as an endangered Amazon plant could be the cure for cancer, I’m afraid we could lose some primordial wisdom, perhaps even a taproot to an ancient spring of human knowledge. That’s why I’m especially interested in “primitive” tribes that are least affected by Western or Middle Eastern influences.

In Ethiopia, for example, I found that the Aerbore tribe’s incredible story about how early man first came to be a meat eater is much more scientifically accurate than the cave-dwelling meat-eater myths that I grew up with. In fact, their ancient story matches the most current scientific theories of man’s evolution. The Aerbore had it right. But until I recorded the story, it might have vanished with the elders.

Surprisingly, anthropologists say that I’m the only person to ever record the oral myths and personal dreams of most of the tribes I’ve studied.

Breaking: A Coal Sludge Spill Bigger than Exxon Valdez

Today there is sad news out of Roane County, Tenn.: A retention pond at the Kingston coal-fired steam plant burst, sending more than 524 million gallons of coal fly ash and water into the nearby town of Harriman and Watts Bar Lake. One man was injured when his home was swept off its foundation, and the mudslide also affected 15 other homes.Reports are that the rush of mud, ash and water now covers 400 acres and is several feet deep in some areas – this coal ash spill is also many times more massive than the Exxon Valdez oil spill. The cleanup is expected to last weeks, but some lives have already been altered forever - and the full environmental impact is not yet known. Fly ash is known to contain numerous toxic chemicals and it’s being reported that some of the spill made it into the Tennessee River – a water supply source for the city of Chattanooga as well as people in Alabama.MORe

Sent my main computer to be cleaned of what I thought was a virus. Turns out there was something wrong with the Windows XP installation itself, something about it being trapped in a loop. The computer had to be...wiped. completely. clean. That was about 3000 songs from Itunes. Luckily some of them were backed up on CDs. But the latest weren't, because there was a problem with the cd case, and it gave too much trouble to open. So we sort of ignored the backing up. Countless stuff that was saved including some very overdue stuff. (sorry [livejournal.com profile] ktempest). Oh yeah. And mi amigo lost all of her vidding stuff, all of her music files, and piles of stuff that took her literally years to put together. Um. All because one, we actually weren't sure what the hell hard drives were, initially, and 2. we kept putting it off in favour of some other less expensive, more urgent stuff. Ah, the perils of ignorance and procrastination...

Ah well. Have a look at the Christmas story retold in I've just discovered my wife has been unfaithful. and Slient Fucking Night
