I didn't realize that Shaggy had released a new album! The hell was I?
Oh Lord my God this song hits the spot!!! Well aside from the fact that I've never seen anyone wear *that* short a dress to church in Jamaica...but hey, I haven't lived there in 4 years, shit might have changed. But the rest, oh Lord, the rest! Bullseye!!! Lawd a mercy the stories I could tell. Of horny pastors going after the choirmembers, the drama and mix up and blenda with various husbands and wives in other people's beds!!! The money that was used for everything except god's word: big house, big car, big present for minister and his family!And 6 hour services on Sunday, speaking in tongues, Hallejuahs every five bells, and all the other churches are going to HELLLLL, I tell you, H-E-L-L!!!!because they have not baptised themselves in the name of the Lord, (especially the Catholic church, they are evil evil EVILLLL!!!!) Hallejuah , AMEN from the congregation!!!

An article caught my eye this morning: Whites more likely to get ER narcotics.
An excerpt:
Emergency room doctors are prescribing strong narcotics more often to patients who complain of pain, but minorities are less likely to get them than whites, a new study finds. Even for the severe pain of kidney stones, minorities were prescribed narcotics such as oxycodone and morphine less frequently than whites.

When talking about racism, it's easy to reduce it to the simplistic: to assume that everyone's racist to some degree and that while whites can act racist towards blacks, sometimes blacks are racist against whites as well. So let's get that out of the way first, by distinguishing between "small r" racism, which is personal racism: "I don't think I'd ever want to date a black man." hematopoetic recently, I went a-rummaging through her journal to see what I could see. Among the many excellent articles and entries I found this disturbing, astonishing and well-written account of the heinous ways in which we treat those of our children who suffer from mental illness, learning disabilities, and behavioral problems.
Behavior compliance through torture: "treatment centers" for teens
"Teenagers: They’re not what they used to be. They’re less violent than they were a decade or so ago and less liable to act up at school or try to harm themselves. They’re also less likely to use drugs, get pregnant, or climb behind the wheel drunk and drive into a tree. But no amount of happy stats can counter the popular image of the teenage superpredator—or the notion that each generation is worse than the one before." (from Mother Jones)
Ransom Note Campaign: children violently stolen by psychiatric and learning disorders

Mental illness, learning disabilities, and behavioral problems carry a powerful stigma in much of US society. It is not uncommon for these issues to be associated with violence: young people out of control because they're angry, because they're possessed. This is only made worse by public awareness campaigns such as the one launched a few weeks ago by the NYU Child Study Center. The campaign was ended early due to public outcry. It featured "ransom notes" to parents signed by various psychiatric and learning disorders such as OCD and autism. The ads were stark and frightening, using scare tactics and exaggerated descriptions to encourage treatment. In cut-and-paste lettering and freehand, the billboards and bus displays said things like:
We are in possession of your son. We are making him squirm and fidget until he is a detriment to himself and those around him. Ignore this and your kid will pay…ADHD (Images of several ads can be found here.)

And what does it say about our society that these atrocities are not reported in our mainstream media, that we prefer to find out the finer details of celebrities' lives instead of paying attention to the human rights disaster that we are perpetuating on our own children? No wonder our politicians can sit down there debating whether or not waterboarding is torture! To paraphrase the Bible, if we sow to the wind, we are going to reap the whirlwind. And the consequences will not be pretty.

You know, since the War in Iraq began, every week there are many and sundry updates on the dead US soldiers. As for the dead Iraqis, the overwhelming majority of which are civilians, well, not so much. I have always wondered why a country who has serious problems with treating its own citizens like human beings (atheists, homosexuals, persons of colour),is allowed anywhere near other countries full of the other.
