detroit as a site for large scale post urban farming

EDIT: I'd like to thank the readers for pointing out the flaws and problems that underlie Mr. Hantz' plans to urban farm on a large scale in Detroit. It is, indeed a predator. But I would also like to highlight this article, which I think is pretty good, minus the passing Hantz praise.

food among the ruins there is a lot of highlighting of the work of POC farmers and environmentalists here. People whom, experience teaches, are very likely to be directly in the line of fire of Mr. Hantz and his investors. *sigh*

John Hantz is a fucker and this is a terrible idea.

The urban farmers of Detroit have collectively challenged him to a duel.

(okay okay, 3-4 dudes were drunk and starting talking about John Hantz and they became a rumor about duel challenging.)

I'm not awake enough to post a real comment about the practical reasons this is a bad idea tonight....maybe in the morning.

Somewhat more critical article:

I am torn between thinking urban farming on that scale is really cool and sympathizing with the smaller local urban farmers, but it sounds like there are some legit concerns about him.

What a fascinating article. I'm having all these amazing imaginings of agricultural cityscapes...I wish I was a better artist so I could put them to paper.
