Prop Eight Supporters file brief to invalidate 18k marriages

Prop. 8 sponsors seek to nullify 18K gay marriages

The sponsors of Proposition 8 asked the California Supreme Court on Friday to nullify the marriages of the estimated 18,000 same-sex couples who exchanged vows before voters approved the ballot initiative that outlawed gay unions.

The Yes on 8 campaign filed a brief arguing that because the new law holds that only marriages between a man and a woman are recognized or valid in California, the state can no longer recognize the existing same-sex unions.

"Proposition 8's brevity is matched by its clarity. There are no conditional clauses, exceptions, exemptions or exclusions," reads the brief co-written by Pepperdine University law school dean Kenneth Starr, the former independent counsel who investigated President Bill Clinton.MORE

Well, like Rick Warren said, those marriages are hurting millions, got that, millions of heterosexuals who are married, after all. Oh what company you keep, Obama.

Yeah, but he didn't say "God damn America" so it's all good.

Haha, touche.

These Prop 8 fuckers just do not stop! Dammit! If only these misguided hypocrites attacked, say, cancer, or global poverty, or even childhood gingivitis with such vigor, the better off we'd all be. *sigh*

I don't know what he was thinking with this Rick Warren choice. Divergent ideas are one thing, but outright opposition to the inclusiveness that won him the election is quite another thing. This was not a smart move, IMO, and there's not enough spinning or selling in the world he could do to make this feel right.

I almost think Rev. Wright would have been a better choice. At least his church has a history of LGBT inclusiveness.

Rick counts as inclusive because he tries very very hard to spin what he's doing as love and benevolence and puppies every time he calls my friend a child rapist for unapologetically liking women. If he were a little more direct and open about where he honestly thinks she can go, he wouldn't count as an inclusive and lovey inspirational person anymore.
