And here was I complaining about the covers that showed women posing extra sexily in impractical heels. We ARE going to get around to a time when women ARE NOT SEEN AS FUCKING TROPHIES AND AWARDS FOR OBNOXIOUS MACHO MEN, correct? At SOME point in time? Also? Put DOWN the photoshop. No really. Put. it. DOWN.

Yo. I keep seeing the excuse that well the publishers don't give the cover artists any info about the books protags. My question is...why not? They give the cover artists some small summary of what the story is about right? Some signpost so that they have an idea of what to shoot for? What is wrong with adding the fact of the protags race to those signpost? Is it going to take that much ink? Not specifying the race of the characters to the cover artist is a stupid, hurtful and rather easily correctable practice. Change it. Now.

AGAIN, DAMMIT!!! A-FUCKING-GAIN via[livejournal.com profile] racebending , a book called Magic Under Glass has a fucking white girl on the cover. And this is the book's description of the main character:

Nimira is a performer, dancing and singing in search of fortune, after migrating from Tassim, in the far East... in Lorinar, she is nothing but a dark-skinned amusement, a novelty “trouser girl” who earns nothing but pennies and whose number comes after acrobats and trained dogs in the music hall she is employed at. ... Nim was a breath of fresh air. For starters, she is dark-skinned and from a different culture; she is strong without being kick-ass: she cries when she has to cry, she fights when she has to fight, she adapts when she has to adapt. She is resilient, she is practical – and she is proud! Proud of her heritage and past.

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. [livejournal.com profile] bookshop suggests a boycott of Bloomsbury. I am planning to finally get around to buying Liar, but will be happy to join after this. DAMMIT! Didn't we JUST GO THROUGH THIS!!!! the icing on the cake is that the book trailer has the character as dark skinned. *headdesk*
